Not only am I confronted by reality, I am in reality as part of the reality. To know reality is to be sense, perceive and rationalise it. To lose sensation and perception of it is to be asleep, unconscious, in a coma or dead. To be born is to gain sensation, perception and rationality. There is nothing miraculous about life. It is a state that arises everyday. It has likely arisen elsewhere. Our surprise at this says something about our innocence or naivety. To be surprised is something animate and sentient beings do. Inanimate and non-sentient objects do other things.
